AbstractSome general examples of non-interpolation pairs and spaces are presented. Necessary conditions for interpolation are established which determine the first type of examples. Constructions connected with the relative completion and a property of the K-functional provide the second class of examples. These techniques provide new information about non-interpolation of symmetric spaces
