AbstractA brief mathematical summary of several problems occuring in the propagation and scattering of acoustic waves in the ocean is presented. The problems include the scattering of acoustic energy from random and periodic surfaces as models of the ocean surface and bottom, and the inversion of the sound- speed profile using wideband propagated field data. Computational problems in each area are briefly discussed
