BackgroundThe diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) in developing countries, such as Bangladesh, is based mainly on microscopic detection of acid-fast bacilli in smears from clinical specimens. On the other hand, the detection of TB by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is quite new in Bangladesh.
