AbstractAlthough a large superfamily of G-protein-coupled receptors serves multiple functions, little is known about their functional activation during ontogeny. To examine the functional activation of the mu-opioid receptor (MOR) and the delta-opioid receptor (DOR) during development, sections of mouse embryos and fetuses from e11.5 until birth were treated with DAMGO and DPDPE, respectively, and the ability of these drugs to induce G-protein coupling was assessed by using GTPγ35S binding autoradiography.
