AbstractThe synthesis of 14-aryl-14H-dibenzno[a,j]xanthenes has attracted considerable attention in organic synthesis. In this article, aromatic aldehydes have been employed with 2-naphthol in the presence of CuSO4·5H2O under solvent-free conditions to afford the corresponding benzoxanthenes in very good yields. The use of readily available CuSO4·5H2O as a reusable and recyclable catalyst makes this process quite simple, convenient, and environmentally friendly
