AbstractIn this paper we discuss the Burton and Miller's boundary integral formulation of the exterior Neumann problem for the Helmholtz equation, which is uniquely solvable for all frequencies as well as a similar formulation of Brakhage and Werner, Lies and also Panich, for the exterior Dirichlet problem. We present an iterative procedure for the efficient solution of the full linear systems arising from the discretisation of such boundary integral equations. Numerical results will also be presented for the Neumann problem for a class of axisymmetric ellipsoids
