AbstractPurpose: New techniques in the management of extracranial carotid occlusive disease have focused attention on the outcome and economics of carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Changing practice patterns for CEA must be assessed to allow accurate comparisons. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of practice modifications related to CEA on patient outcome and cost data. Methods: Data on patients undergoing CEAs at a single institution from fiscal year 1992 to 1998 were prospectively collected and entered into a computerized database.
