Lacan approached psychosomatic phenomena especially through the concept of the frozen signifier. Lacanian authors used this concept in a variety of ways. Yet differences do exist among lacanian writers themselves, mainly as regards the issue of the possibility of inference on concrete holophrastic signifiers, which could be spotted in the subject’s speech by the analyst. The inferences in question, according to some, end the psychosomatic symptom. Other lacanian writers question the clinical value of such interventions.
