First record of castniid palm borer- Paysandisia archon (Burmeister, 1880) in Croatia

U 2011. nakon prvog nalaza crvene palmine pipe - Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier, 1889) ubrzo je otkriven još jedan karantenski štetnik na palmi. Radilo se o palminom drvotoču - Paysandisia archon (Burmeister, 1880). Ovaj štetnik nađen je na palmama Phoenix canariensis, Trahycarpus fortunei, Chamerops humilis, Washigtonia filifera i Washingtonia robusta u rasadniku na području Splita. Crvena palmina pipa i palmin drvotoč vrlo često dovode do potpunog propadanja biljaka domaćina. Ta dva štetnika najvažniji su štetnici palme na području Europe i iz tog razloga imaju status karantenskih štetnika. Osim o prvom nalazu ovog štetnika u Hrvatskoj, rad govori i o štetama koje pričinja palmin drvotoč, njegovim domaćinima, morfologiji i biologiji to problemu suzbijanja.After the first record of the red palm weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier, 1790) in 2011 on palms in Croatia, new quarantine pest was discovered very soon after. It was the castniid palm borer Paysandisia archon (Burmeister, 1880). This pest was found on palms Phoenix canariensis, Trahycarpus fortunei, Chamerops humilis, Washigtonia felifera and Washingtonia robusta in a nursery near Split. Red palm weevil and castniid palm borer very often destroy their host completely. These two pests are the most important pests of palms in Europe, and because of that, they have quarantine status. In the mediterranean part of Europe, these pests spread very quickly causing huge damages.
