The European crisis has triggered a series of economic, political and social consequences in the European Union, particularly for the euro zone member states and this has generated a public discussion about the pertinence of a single currency. This paper presents some of the social, political and economic consequences. One of the main consequences of the crisis in peripheral countries is higher unemployment. The political reconfiguration at the national-level in some European countries is presented.
