Advances in surgical techniques in the field of flexor tendon injuries have given greatly improved results over the past ten years. Primary direct suture of the flexor digitorum profundus may still be carried out in cases where the injury is proximal to the metacarpophalangeal joint and there is soft tissue for the tendon to pull through, or distal to the sublimis insertion. But for injuries between the metacarpophalangeal joint and sublimis insertion a graft using, if possible, palmaris longus, is performed. Flexor digitorum sublimis is usually removed because of risk of adhesions
