AbstractDuring their development, T cells are rescued from apoptotic cell death to follow distinct lineage fates. Recent data concerned with the role of the Notch transmembrane receptor in these events are interpreted to show that Notch promotes survival, but contrary to earlier reports has no function in lineage commitment
