AbstractUtilities currently require fast-responding natural gas turbines to stabilize the variability of renewable energy sources. Efficiency gains can be made by integrating these units into concentrated solar power plants that use air Brayton cycles. Operation of these hybrid power plants requires a combustor capable of accepting the high temperature air leaving the receiver. However, the next generation of solar receivers are expected to reach temperatures outside the capability of any existing combustion system. Autoignition and flashback risks complicate the use of conventional lean premixed injectors that are important for maintaining low NOx emissions.
