AbstractThis paper discusses a methodology used to set, already at an early stage of technology development, the key performance requirements for carbon dioxide capture technologies necessary to meet a certain capture cost target. The methodology also illustrates how realistic or unrealistic cost targets can be. Although, applicable for capture technologies in general (pre-, post combustion and oxy fuel), the usefulness of the methodology is illustrated for one pre-combustion capture technology in particular i.e., Pd membranes for CO2 capture in a NGCC power plant
