Aims: To describe adults’ experiences of hypoglycaemia in diabetes mellitus, and the consequences of hypoglycaemia in daily life. Methods: This study was conducted using qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach. It was performed as a secondary analysis of semi-structured interviews. A total of 29 people participated in the study: 15 with type 1 diabetes and 14 with type 2 diabetes. Results: The theme that emerged was: Hypoglycaemia is an ever-present risk that manifests itself in different ways. The following categories were identified: Symptoms of hypoglycaemia can appear like a bolt from the blue. Knowledge comes from life experiences.
