Anhörigas upplevelser av missbruk : Hur föräldrars upplevelser av missbrukssituationen påverkar deras vardagsliv

Purpose of the study was to investigate how the experience of abuse situation has affected everyday life for parents of children who abuse. Through qualitative interviews, I intended to find out how the experience of the situation has affected their everyday lives socially and emotionally, as well as support the families have received from the authorities and their opinions about it. The study also aimed to find out what changes parents would like to see within the support services in terms of their relatives. The reason that a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews were chosen was that I wanted to explore the subjective experiences of the families. Theories of social support and co-dependency have been the basis for the analysis of the survey. Previous research concerning support for family members and the impact abuse causes for the relatives is a restricted area. The result of this study shows that some of the parents have been offered support from various authorities and instances. All parents tell however that the support of FMN is the support that has been most important. Desirable changes in the support services include support for parents in the early stages and continued support for parents whose children has reached the age of eighteen.. Furthermore, the results show that all parents lived in a co-dependency where the thoughts constantly been on their abusive children.
