Förekomsten av oberättigade akuta DT-hjärnundersökningar : En litteraturstudie

Computed tomography (CT) is used primarily in acute stroke because it has better availability, can differentiate acute hemorrhage and has shorter examination times. There must be greater advantages than disadvantages concerning the examination, to be acknowledged when exposing a patient to radiation risks and to be eligible as radiation protection is the main principle. When a patient is suspected of having a brain injury you need an assessment of the level of consciousness made. In Sweden, two consciousness scales are RLS and GCS. The purpose of this study was to determine if there were any unjustified emergency CT examinations of the brain. The study was conducted as a systematic literature review, in which nine articles were reviewed in more detail and were published between 2007 and 2012. There were two questions that developed from the purpose; Does unjustified brain studies occur in acute CT? Does the unjustified CT brain study occur in children? All the reviewed articles revealed that there are unjustified emergency CT examinations of the brain. The conclusion of this study showed that there are unjustified acute CT examinations of the brain and that there ought to be more research done in this area to clarify guidelines and recommendations to reduce patient radiation doses.Validerat; 20130314 (global_studentproject_submitter
