Lean construction is a relatively immature literature field in need of unbiased theoretical reasoning and case studies in order to investigate how lean thinking can be applied in a construction project context. The purpose of this paper is to increase the understanding of how various measures of lean thinking can be implemented in a construction project and how these measures work. In order to enhance unbiased theoretical reasoning a frame of reference is first developed through a literature review of peer-reviewed journal articles.
