With an increasing number of advanced driver assistance systems in cars, it is important to know how the driver is affected by different kinds of information signals. Many of the systems already used in cars rely on visual information, and therefore require visual attention. This can lead to an increase in inattention, as well as in cognitive and visual workload. By the use of other types of signals, the risk of overloading one sensory modality is reduced.
