Attitude to food in the russian language picture of the world (on the example of the verb nakhlebat’sya)

The article is devoted to the research of manifestation of such aspect of national character as “aspiration in everything to reach extremes” (according to D. S. Likhachev), expressed in a saturational mode of action, in particular, in verbs with semantics “the result of eating food”. On the one hand, statements with such verbs as nayest’sya (to eat one’s fill), nalopat’sya, natreskat’sya, etc., designate desire, intention of the subject of the action, his / her attitude to food (and to other objects in a figurative use); on the other hand, these statements show the assessment of the subject of the action “the result of eating food” by the outside observer. The special attention is paid to the verb nakhlebat’sya. So, the lexical compatibility of the verb and its grammatical features are described in detail. Having in its semantics the seme ‘liquid’, the verb has caused its metaphorical use in connection with the metaphor LIFE — WATER STREAM (the sea, the river). Material for the research contains fragments of contemporary literary and media texts taken from the National corpus of the Russian language.Статья посвящена исследованию проявления такого аспекта национального характера, как «стремление во всем доходить до крайностей» (по выражению Д. С. Лихачева), выраженного в сатуративном способе глагольного действия, в частности, в глаголах с семантикой ‘результат поглощения пищи’. С одной стороны, высказывания с такими глаголами, как наесться, нажраться, налопаться, натрескаться, нахлебаться и т. п., обозначают желание, намерение субъекта действия, его отношение к еде (в т. ч. и к другим объектам при переносном употреблении), с другой — в них выражается оценка стороннего наблюдателя субъекта, поглощающего пищу. Особое внимание уделяется глаголу нахлебаться. Так, подробно описывается контекстуальное окружение глагола и его грамматические особенности. Присутствие семы ‘жидкость’ в семантике глагола нахлебаться обусловило его метафорическое употребление, связь с метафорой ЖИЗНЬ — ВОДНЫЙ ПОТОК (море, река). Материалом исследования послужила выборка фрагментов из современных художественных и публицистических текстов из Национального корпуса русского языка
