Minocycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that, in addition to its antimicrobial function, has been reported to possess a relevant anti-inflammatory activity. Its effects have been extensively evaluated in inflammatory-related neurological diseases. Here, we evaluate its effect on the systemic inflammatory response in a model of experimental acute pancreatitis. Minocycline treatment significantly reduced the inflammation in pancreas and mesenterium, had no effect on the adipose tissue inflammation, and increased the inflammatory response in the lung.
