Morfología y ontogenia del sistema digestivo del centollo atlántico, Maja brachydactyla Balss, 1922 (Brachyura: Majidae)

This study describes the morphology and ultrastructure of the digestive system of the spider crab, from the stage of zoea I to adult, using optical and electronic microscopy. The morphology of the organs is similar from the first zoeal stage to the juvenile stage, only the stomach show a drastic change during the metamorphosis to megalopa. The anterior and posterior midgut caeca appears as small buds that grow during the larval development; while the hepatopancreas develop during the growth of the juveniles to the adult stage. As in others brachyuran, the esophagus, stomach and hindgut have an internal cuticle. The midgut and hepatopancreas do not have a cuticle and their main functions are the secretion of the perithropic membrane and the digestion and absorption of nutrients. Four cell types have been identified in the hepatopancreas: E-cell, B-cell, F-cell and R-cell[ES] El centollo atlántico, Maja brachydactyla Balss, 1922, es un decápodo de gran valor comercial y con potencial como cultivo acuícola. El presente estudio describe la morfología y la ultraestructura del aparato digestivo del centollo, desde el estadio de zoea I hasta el adulto, empleando microscopía óptica y electrónica. La morfología de los distintos órganos es similar desde el estadio de zoea I hasta el estadio de juvenil, solo el estómago sufre un drástico cambio morfológico durante la metamorfosis hasta megalopa. Los ciegos anteriores y posterior del digestivo medio aparecen como pequeñas protuberancias que crecen durante el desarrollo larvario; mientras que el principal desarrollo del hepatopáncreas tiene lugar durante el crecimiento de los juveniles hasta el estadio adulto. Como en otros braquiuros, el esófago, el estómago y el digestivo posterior poseen una cutícula interna. El digestivo medio y el hepatopáncreas carecen de dicha cutícula y sus principales funciones son la secreción de la membrana peritrófica, la digestión y la absorción de nutrientes.
