[Background]: Although decreased counts of peripheral blood (PB) B cells—associated with an apparently contradictory polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia—have been reported in chronic alcoholism, no information exists about the specific subsets of circulating B cells altered and their relationship with antibody production.
