A study of conflicts in Albert Camus' The Stranger

Studying and analyzing literary work are hard enough for the students. This might be caused by the difference cultures and ways of life. Besides that, the language which is used in literary work can some times be misinterpreted. Knowing the obstacles, the writer feels that they are a challenge for her to make this literary study on Albert Camus' The Stranger. She feels interested in studying this novel because of the main character in this novel has an unusual way of thinking which is different with other characters in this novel. And because of his way of thinking, the conflicts, both external and internal arise. These are what the writer wants to analyze. To find the conflicts, the writer uses analytical method to analyze Albert Camus' The Stranger. She also uses Kenney's theory which says that to analyze a literary work is to identify the separate parts and finds out the relation of the parts to the whole. Since this story also consists of Camus' phylosophy which is called 'Existentialism', the writer also uses it to analyze the main character's way of thinking. In Albert Camus' The Stranger, the main character, Meursault, has conflicts with other people and his environment. He also has conflicts with himself. He has the conflicts because of his principle which can not be accepted by other people. But, for Meursault himself, his principle means a tool to reach what he wants from life. And at last, Meursault wins the battle because by defending what he believes he gets the happiness
