The addition of capillary forces can dramatically change the rheological behaviour of suspensions. By adding a small amount (<1%) of an immiscible secondary liquid to the bulk suspension, the network strength and corresponding yield stress can be tuned by several orders of magnitude. This observed transition exists when the secondary liquid preferentially wets the solid particles or even if it does not [1]. The strong network formed by the capillary force can be used to produce highly porous open ceramic materials [2].
