Fondane et le cinéma

This book deals with Romanian avant-garde poet Benjamin Fondane’s ties to cinema. Based on his entire work – poems, scenarios, essays, pictures and what remains of his film – the book sheds light on the contradictions in Fondane’s conception of cinema. Fondane had a taste for popular movies but spoke in defense of experimental cinema, unbound imagination and the search for the real through paradox. He both acknowledged and denied cinema’s status as a medium. Similar tensions arose in his stance toward cinepoetry: Fondane vacillated between the visual and the written and between the utter rejection and the redefinition of lyricism.status: publishe
