Evaluation of the attitudes of the medical staff of the hospital N regarding teamwork

The aim is to evaluate the attitudes of medical staff of the hospital Nregarding teamwork. Research methodology. The study was carried out in the hospital N situated in Lithuania in 2014.All medical personnel (physicians and nurses) were invited to participate in this survey. The original study questionnaire together with was developed together with the Belbin Role Self-Perception Inventory was used for data collection. Results: It was found that all respondents (100%) were aware about the significance of teamwork in the health care sector. 37.3% of respondents indicated, that they were practicing“teamwork“ in the hospital and 57.8% were practicing both types (“teamwork and individual work“) styles. More than half (54.2%) of medical staff said, that they need teamwork for performing their daily duties. 32.5 % has agreed thatit is important to work in a team. Our findingssuggest, that two Belbin team roles were dominating in the Hospital N – “team worker” (39.8%), “implementer“(24.1%). Most of the respondents (91.6%) advised that they have enough skills forteam working. However 98.8% of respondents expressed an interested in further development of these skills. Conclusions: The results showed that teamwork is importantsignificant for medical staff. “Team worker” and “implementer” were two dominating Belbin team roles. A majority of the respondents advised that they have enough skills for team working but they would be much interested an interested in further development of these skills
