Evaluation of ginsenosides composition and determination of antioxidant activity in Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) roots and their preparations

Aim of the research: To evaluate the qualitative evaluation, quantitative determination and antioxidant activity in roots of Korean ginseng growing in Lithuania and preparations of Korean ginseng by thin layer chromatography and visible light spectrophotometry. Objectives: To determine ginsenosides qualitative composition in Korean ginseng roots and selected commercial products by thin layer chromatography. To determine ginsenosides quantitative composition and antioxidant activity in Korean ginseng roots and selected commercial products by visible light spectrophotometry. To perform the obtained results statistical analysis of the data. Results and conclusions: Ginsenosides Rb1, Rb2, Rc, Rd, Re and Rg1 were identified in 8, 9, 10, 11, 13 and 14 years of growth of Korean ginseng roots. The biggest quantity of total ginsenosides was determined in the sample of Panax ginseng roots which grew 11 years (0,166 ± 0,003 mg/g). The lowest quantity of total ginsenosides were determined in Panax ginseng roots which grew 6 years (0,166 ± 0,003 mg/ml). The quantity of total ginsenosides was studied in commercial products- herbal medical product (0,264 ± 0,005 mg/g), food supplement (0,036 ± 0,003 mg/g), tea (0,185 ± 0,010 mg/g) and pastilles (0,083 ± 0,004 mg/g) with Korean ginseng extract. Antioxidant activity were determined in the sample of Korean ginseng root which grew 6 years (43,33 ± 2,08 TEAC, μg/mg), herbal medical product (21,33 ± 2,08 TEAC, μg/mg) and tea (8,67 ± 1,53 TEAC, μg/mg) with Korean ginseng extract
