Pecularities of contraception use in Lithuania. What has been change in 10 years?

Modern contraception is available in Lithuania a little longer than for ten years. Despite this fact reliable contraception, especially hormonal contraception, usage in Lithuania is low. The aim of the study was to evaluate acceptability and tolerability of novel contraceptive method. Secondary aim was to compare cahnges in usage and choice of contrception in Lithuania during last decade. Methods: anonymous structured questionnaire. Results: hormonal contraception usage increased during last years, usage of IUDs decreased, though one of six Lithuanian women of reproductive age do not protects themselves from unexpected pregnancy at all. Reliable contraception more oftenly is chosen by women with higher education and over 20 years old. Women with contraceptive experience look for methods that better satisfy their needs and comply with their lifestyle. Fear of side effects and lack of knowledge are named as main reasons for not using contraception. Medical doctor remains the most important and reliable source of information. Specialists should give their patient possibility to choose from more than one method of contraception. Provided with information on a new method nearly half of women are eager to try it
