Managerial solutions of breeding measures for improving the characteristics of cattle productivity.

Aim of the work: To evaluate the main purpose of the breeding systems activity measures application influence to dairy farm herds measures of productivity in Lithuania.Research objectives: To evaluate the main use of Lithuanian breeding measures activities applying to improve dairy farm herds productivity properties , evaluate the use of these measures at the different size farms. Results of survey: 40.85% of respondents has up to 10 cows. 53.66% surveyed farmers performs productivity control. 92.69% respondents’ trusts in specialists, 25% use the services of specialists for the selection and handy and exterior evaluation. 90.11% interviewees indicated that the bulls are selected by themselves or inseminators, 9.89% - this entrusts for associations. 90.24% of respondents uses inseminator services, 9.76% has insemination license so they use bulls semen to inseminate cows by themselves. 36% large farms participate in breeding programs for cattle breeds’ improvement. 18.90% are the members of associations, 39% showed that they get benefit from the associations. The main attention is drawn to selection by the productivity (47%), somatic cells’ count (22%), and the origin (20%), the least is by the exterior (11%). 17.68% of surveyed are using specialist services to evaluate cattle exterior. The breeding system activities measures mostly uses and bigger benefits of activities points large farms owners. 56% of respondents which holds license for insemination and inseminates cows with bull semen themselves are the owners of the farms that hold from 51 to 500 cows. 83% of the respondents evaluates Lithuanian breeding system positively. 17% negatively. The main given reasons for that was: the profit is too low from the farms and disappointing job of inseminators
