Distal part limb diseases of sports horses in x stable, their occurence frequency, onset reasons, diagnostics and treatment

Distal part limb diseases occur in horses due to traumas, when they are inadequately used during competitions or trainings. It is important to know what kind of limb diseases are specific for horses, how to recognize them, to provide aid and how to use the horse in order to avoid the onset of these diseases. The aim of the research: to analyze the onset reasons of the distal part limb diseases, their frequency and to evaluate which diseases are typical for horses taking part in different competitions. The tasks of research: to analyze what kind of distal part limb diseases have occured in horses, to assess their frequency. To assess the distribution of distal part limb diseases according to the gender, age, as well as their distribution in horses taking part in different competitions. To take samples from hoof frog grooves, to grow them on nutritional medium and to identify grown cultures. Methods of research: data on the distal part limb diseases of sports horses was collected from February 2012 to August 2014 in an x stable. 67 sports horses were analyzed. The received results were statistically processed with Microsoft Excel (2007) program. Results and conclusions: Distal part limb diseases in horses made up 61,19 percent (n=67). The following diseases were determined: laminitis (15,91 percent), navicular disease (13,64 percent), osteoarthritis (11,36 percent ), 19 hoof thrush (43,18 percent), tendinitis (15,91 percent). Cases of distal part limb diseases have distributed as follows: stallions (17,07 percent), geldings (43,90 percent), mares (39,03 percent). The majority were determined in the age groups of 3 (34,09 percent) and 4 (27,27 percent). The majority of laminitis and tendinitis cases were diagnosed in dressage horses (each 33,33 percent). In show jumping laminitis accounted for the majority of cases (30,76 percent), in cross – country the majority of sports horses were diagnosed hoof thrush and tendinitis (each 33,33 percent)
