The public activity of Lithuanian pharmacists in Russian empire in the begining of the 20th century

The beginning of the 20th century Lithuanian pharmacists, who worked in various Russian regions, started to plan the development of national professional organization. Lithuanian pharmacists were active members of society and took significant role in the Lithuanian National Movement. After the resumption of free Lithuanian press, the messages from pharmacists started to appear in newspapers, in which they urges colleagues to return to Lithuania, promotes the idea of National Movement, invites to establish professional organization. At first pharmacists participated in small national meetings. Later, they have established pharmacists’ chapters in Petersburg (year 1901), Moscow (year 1910) and Kiev (year 1911). Lithuanian pharmacists had own professional journal “Pharmaceutical Affairs” and established the first Lithuanian Pharmaceutical Society in 1917 at Moscow.
