C- reactive protein level correlation with leucocytes in sick dogs‘ blood

The study aims to evaluate C- reactive protein level correlation with leucocytes in sick dogs‘ blood, also to assess white blood cell count and body temperature changes, as the traditional indicators of inflammation. The study was conducted in 2015 July - 2015 December at veterinary clinic UAB “Veterinarai”, which is located in Šiauliai. Animals for study were selected according to their anamnesis data, clinical trial results, a greater emphasis on the temperature indicator. Dogs blood was taken from the front legs subcutaneous vein (V. cephalic) and the rear leg side subcutaneous vein (V. saphena). 3-5 ml of blood was drawn into respective test tubes containing EDTA anticoagulant or without it. Performed morphological and biochemical blood tests. It was taken and analyzed blood samples of 14 dogs. Blood was taken regardless of the dog's sex, age, weight, breed or other physiological indicators. Taking into account the results obtained and the animals established diagnoses are divided into four groups: a parasitic disease (n=3), pyometra (n=2), pancreatitis (n=2), other diseases (n=4). The results were compared with clinically healthy dogs (n=3) blood samples. It was found that in dogs C- reactive protein ranged from 0,17 to 32,012 mg/l. Increasing of C- reactive protein concentration in dogs diagnosed with pyometra (32,012 mg/l; 24,286 mg/l), pancreatitis (27,14 mg/l; 18,56 mg/l), babesiosis (22,425 mg/l). Meanwhile in dogs leucocytes concetration ranged from 7,3 to 30,8 x109/l. It was found that leucocytes concetration increased the most with: pyometra (30,8 x109/l; 25,7 x109/l), pancreatitis (26,3 x109/l). The highest temperature in tested dogs was recorded in animals suffering from pyometra (39,4 to 39,9 °C), babesiosis (39,7 to 40 °C), pancreatitis (39,5 to 39,7 °C). Moderate cerrelation between leukocytes and C reactive protein was set (r = 0,708) in case of investigated diseases
