Associations between work related ergonomic risk factors and musculoskeletal complaints in the textile manufacturing company

Aim of the study - to analyze and asses work related ergonomic risk factors, and to investigate their associations with employees complaints of musculoskeletal system. Methods. Data was collected by way of direct observation and measurement method and questionnaire survey. Totally 138 employees of textile company were participated in the survey. Objective analysis of ergonomic risk factors was applied by using Methodical Directions of Ergonomic risk factors analysis. Questionnaire information of musculoskeletal complaints were collected by using Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. Statistical analysis of the obtained findings was performed using SPSS 15 statistical software package. Results. Analysis of ergonomic risk factors in the work place showed that ergonomic risk factors are common in the textile industry company. The most prevalent were a strained posture, lifting or carrying weights, bending of trunk. Questionnaire survey results have showed that 89, 9 % employees have got musculoskeletal disorders in any site of body during the past 12 months. The most common were low back pain (65, 2 %), more then half (51, 4 %) of employees were exposed by neck pain, 40, 6 % - wrist/ hand pain. We have found that women had more musculoskeletal problems then men, these problems were more common in older age and between employees with overweight (BMI > 25). Prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders the most common were between weavers in almost all sites of body (OR in various sites of body were 1, 5 – 15) and between spinners (OR in various sites of body were 1, 5 – 2, 5). The seniority of work was significant risk factor for musculoskeletal complains. Ergonomic risk factors were significant for musculoskeletal complains in various sites of body.
