Competence of pharmaceutical company representatives and satisfaction with their work

Aim of the study: to research the competence of pharmaceutical companies representatives and satisfaction of their job. Objectives: 1) to analyze the competence of the medical representatives of pharmaceutical companies and their need for professional competence, 2) to research the attitude of employees of the pharmaceutical companies towards the management of their job, 3) to evaluate the satisfaction with the job done in the pharmaceutical companies, 4) to evaluate the links of the evaluation of health of the pharmaceutical companies’ representatives, their encountered stress and the satisfaction with their job. Methodology: the momentary quantitative research was carried out. 160 questionnaires were given away. 147 of them returned. The frequency of response is 91.8 %. 135 questionnaire results were analyzed. The majority of respondents were female -85.2 % whereas, 14, 8 % male. The scope of respondents was big enough for the analysis. The statistical analysis was carried out by the help of the statistical package of Windows 13.0. Results and conclusions: The pharmaceutical companies’ representatives were analyzed in terms of their competence and the satisfaction with their job. The 83 % of medical representatives have university degrees. Most of them have a degree in biomedicine: 28.14 % of them -in nursery, 18.51 % -in medicine, 14.08 % -in pharmacology, 8.4 %- in public health, 4.44 % -in physical rehabilitation, 3.7 % -in veterinary medicine. The 23 % of medical respondents have nothing in common with medicine: 6.67 % of them have management and business degrees, 2.26 %-in chemistry, 2.26 –in sport pedagogy and pedagogy. The 11.85 of respondents have a degree in other subjects. At the beginning of their work career, medical representatives lacked mostly medical knowledge, accordingly 43%, management – 38.5%, customer service - 32.8%, foreign language – 25.9%, computer skills – 12.6%, driving skills – 4.5%. 23 % of respondents had completed introductory studies before they started working in pharmaceutical companies. 14% of the medical representatives are studying for the second profession. 10.4 % of respondents are planning to study in the future. The most popular at study programmes are management and marketing studies (9.6%) and public health (5.9%). The statistically significant relation of work management and years spent working in pharmaceutical company has been established (p=0.026), the evaluation of senior employee (p=0.0001), relationships of colleagues (p=0.02) and relationships with leaders (p=0.002) the possibility to develop and get better qualifications(p0.05). Medical representatives agree that their job is necessary for doctors (p=0.03). The career (61%) and communication with customers (60.5%) is very important for younger respondents. The older than 33 respondents find financial awards (54.5%) the possibility to do an interesting job (53.9%) and lack of intention to do their professional job (54.5%) important (p>0.05). The health situation is well evaluated by 41.5% of respondents, an average – 40%, 15.6% evaluate their health as excellent. Medical representative most suffer from the nervous sensitivity (24.31%), low back pain (17.57%) and the disorder of digestion (17.57%).
