Factors influencing feline urolithiasis

The data for this research was gathered at one of the veterinary clinics „UAB Vetvila“ in the period between 2012 and 2014. This paper consists of 42 pages including 20 pictorial material, 1 table and 50 academic references. The main goal of this paper is to analyze the morbidity of feline urolithiasis in cats in the period between 2012 and 2014. In order to do so, the aims of the paper were designed to a) investigate the frequency of urolithiasis manifestations and its dependency on other urinary system diseases; b) to perform differential diagnostics of urinary system disease; c) to identify which crystals were present in the analysis stage; d) to establish whether there is a correlation between either age, sex, breed or sexual activity and morbidity of feline urolithiasis. After the analysis of 137 medical cases related to urinary system problems, it was found out that 51 of them (which represents 37.23%) contained instances of urolithiasis. All of subjects affected by the disease were separated into groups based on I) sex II) sexual activity III) age and IV) breed. The groups consisted of I) females (n=13) and males (n=38); II) neutered (n=41) and non-neutered (n=10) subjects; III) cats aged between 0 and 3 years (n=6); aged between 3 and 6 years (n=14); aged between 6 and 9 years (n=20); and aged between 9 and 12 years (n=11) ; IV) purebred (n=35) and mixed-breed (n=16). In conclusion, the research results indicated that urolithiasis was present at 37.23% of all subjects affected by urinary system disease.
