Historical - pharmaceutical research of Materia medica in Viekšniai pharmacy - museum.

Viekšniai pharmacy – museum is the last rustic pharmacy not only in Lithuania but also in all Baltic countries. It is interesting for its history, personalities of there worked pharmacists and exhibits. There are many old drug jars for medicinal substances, medicinal substances and equipment to manufacture and weight it. Also in this museum still remain rooms of pharmacists and some personal belongings. With permission from Mažeikiai museum director research was started in Viekšniai pharmacy museum. In list of Viekšniai pharmacy museum, there are 618 substances, which are divided into categories: plant materials, chemical substances (organic and inorganic), internal pharmacy preparations and patent medicines, animal materials, homeopathic medicines and homeopathic materials, poisonous and strong acting materials. Employees in this museum don‘t have pharmaceutical education, so their knowledge about pharmacy is limited. Due lack of knowledge and information is hard to understand that time pharmacy, how people were treated, what plants and other substances were used.
