Kaunas region senior class students' awareness of the health efects of ultraviolet radiation and connections with the tanning behavior

Aim of the study – explore Kaunas region senior classstudents’ awareness of the health effects of ultraviolet radiation and connections with the tanning behavior. Objectives: 1. Evaluate Kaunas region senior classstudents’ awareness about ultraviolet radiation impact to health. 2. Evaluate Kaunas region senior classstudents’ tanning behavior. 3. Determine connections between Kaunas region senior classstudents’ tanning behavior and awareness of ultraviolet radiation impact to health. Methods. The object of research – Kaunas region senior class students’ awareness of the health effects of ultraviolet radiation and connections with the tanning behavior. Using questionnaire surveyed 400 Kaunas region senior class students. Response rate 96,25. For analysis not compatible 8 questionnaires. Statistical analysis done by IBM SPSS 20.0. Used tests: χ2,Stjudent and ANOVA (with Bonferroni). Statistical significance level 0,05. Results and conclusions. After evaluation of Kaunas region senior classstudents’awareness about ultraviolet radiation impact to health could be stated that knowledge’s are insufficient. Less knowledge’s about sun impact to organism have boys compared with girls: average false or “I don’t know” among girls 4,58; boys 5,86 (from 9). More knowledge’s about using solarium have girls: average false or “I don’t know” among girls 4,79; among boys – 6,05 (from 10). More than half of all students believe that tanned skin is more attractive, sexy, better-looking. It is influenced by the media. It was found that the senior classes (IV gymnasium) students have fewer false beliefs and provides less “I don’t know”. It was found that regardless of age, the class they teach, their burning behavior of the sun is risky. Girls' behavior is more risky, i.e.they longer and more often bathon the sun. Girls are more likely than boys use creams, light-colored clothing and sunglasses. Meanwhile, the guys often wear headgear than girls. Boys, less than girls, use a tanning services. Those who use the services of solarium tanning behavior is extremely risky: not always protect eyes by glasses, not covered genitalia and breasts depiction of hair protection, tattoos or scars, as required by thesafe use rules. In determining the relationship between awareness of the health effects of ultraviolet radiation and tanning behavior of pupils can be said that although the guys have less knowledge, but the tanning behavior of both the sun and tanning beds are less risky than girls
