significance of computed tomography scan assessing the severity degree and complications of acute pancreatitis during 2012-2013

The objective: to evaluate the severity index (CTSI, MCTSI) of acute pancreatitis and determine the relation between disease severity and existing complications with regard to the data of 2012–2013. The aims: to assess the symptoms of computed tomography scan of patients being sick with acute pancreatitis in order to determine the severity index (CTSI, MCTSI) of acute pancreatitis. To determine the degree of pancreatic necrosis, the data of clinical laboratory tests and the relation with the severity degree of pancreatitis. To determine and analyse complications of patients with acute pancreatitis and their relation with CTSI and MCTSI during 2012-2013. To compare the acquired results with the test results of 2009-2011. Methodology and research participants: Retrospective research of patients with acute pancreatitis at Kaunas Clinics of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences during 2012-2013. Statistical data package SPSS 17.0 was used for data processing. Research results: 82 patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis participated in the research Male and female ratio was 41 (50%) respectively. The age of the participants varied from 20 to 94 years of age, age average was 59,57±19,30 years. 41,46% of the participants had acute pancreatitis caused by alcohol, 31,37% suffered from billiary and 26,83% from other etiology. Complications were diagnosed for 55 (67%) patients. Pancreatic necrosis was diagnosed for 41 (50%) patients. 8 patients (9,76%) died. A positive correlation between CTSI, MCTSI, degree of pancreatic necrosis and CRB/leukocytes was determined. It was determined that increasing points of CTSI and MCTSI complication frequency ratio increases respectively (p=0,0003; rs=0,881 and p=0,027; rs=0,811). Conclusion: 50% of the patients were diagnosed with pancreatic necrosis. The level of CRB and leukocytes correlates with CTSI and MCTSI on the 5th day after computed tomography scan. CTSI and MCTSI points increasing complication frequency increases respectively. Comparing the tests significant differences were not identified
