Fumonisins in corn and corn products

The aim of this study is to investigate corn for common fungi and tribal diversity and their products contamination by fumonisins which are produced and imported in Lithuania. Objectives: • Investigate detected fungal genera diversity of corn. • Compare different origins of corn Fusarium infection. • Investigate the maize and maize products contamination of fumonisins. Research was conducted using randomly selected samples of corn from various places in Lithuania in 2013 autumn period (September-October), corn products from Lithuania supermarket (corn flakes, crackers, popping corn) 2013m winter and autumn period. Collected grain maize n = 32 grain and n = 10 samples. Collected samples were determined fumonisins (FUM) concentration. Corn grains of corncob collected from the fields of Lithuania, samples established the highest average pollution,, Other '' fungi of the genus -29.6 ± 4.76% (min. - 0%, max. - 75%, σ = 20, 77; CV = 70.16%). Penicillium spp. average of contamination- 27.8 ± 4.38% (min. - 0%; max. - 68%; σ = 19.1%; CV = 68.7%). Fusarium spp. - 21.6 ± 4% (min. 0% max. - 56%, σ = 19, CV = 88%). The lowest percentage average of Aspergillus spp.contamination - 21 ± 3.89% (min. - 0%, max. - 57%, σ = 16.95%; CV = 80.7%)
