Assessment disorders of the respiratory function to the coronary artery bypass grafting patients, whom were applied physiotheraphy

The purpose of the study. To assess disorders of the respiratory function to the coronary artery bypass grafting patients, whom were applied physiotheraphy. Tasks of the study: 1. To assess the risk factors, which influence the post-operative complications and the effectiveness of the physiotheraphy to the coronary artery bypass grafting patients. 2. To assess and compare the factors of the respiratory function before operation of the smokers and non-smokers. 3. To assess and compare the factors of the respiratory function on the first postoperation day of the smokers and non-smokers. 4. To assess and compare the factors of the respiratory function on the sixth postoperation day of the smokers and non-smokers. 5. To assess the influence of the factors of the respiratory function on the effectiveness of the physiotheraphy and the process of the post-operative complications. The methods of the study. In this study were measured the factors of the respiratory function (the means of the FVC, FEV1, PEF and the Hence sample) before operation, on the first and the sixth postoperation days. The data on atelectasis and time of the operation were taken from patient's case-histories. The patients were inquired about smoking; are they sick in diabetes, in arterial hypertension; did they have myocardium infarction; did their relatives sick in ischaemical heart disease. Also patients were inquired about their age, sex, height, weight and physical activeness. The participants of the study. The study was accomplished on receipt written permission from Bioethics centre in the Cardiac, thoracic and vascular clinic in teaching hospital of Kaunas University of Medicine. The study included 60 patients after coronary artery bypass grafting. The studied patients were distribut in two equal groups (non-smokers and smokers, who have the small dependence of nicotine). The study was accomplished from 03-11-2008 to 30-01-2009. Conclusions. We found that smokers before coronary artery bypass grafting patients statistically significantly more were sick in II and III degree arterial hypertension, they have I degree obesity and more frequent post-operative complications of the respiratory system - atelectasis than non-smokers (p0,05), except the mean of the Hence sample, which in the second studied group were statistically significantly less than in the first group (p0,05). On the sixth day after operation values of the respiratory function indicators (the means of the FVC, FEV1, PEF and Hence sample) in the patients who smoked were statistically significantly less than in the patients who did not smoke (p<0,05).
