The influence of salicylic acid and various gelificating substances on formation of gels and ethanolic/polymeric solutions

The aim of the thesis: To evaluate the influence of salicylic acid (SA) and various gelificating substances on formation of gels and ethanolic/polymeric solutions. The objectives of the study: To evaluate the influence of acrylate copolymer, acrylate crosspolymer, acrylate/behenet – 25 methacrylate copolymer on the formation and texture of gels to compare it with the tradicional gelificating substances, used in the production of gels; to compare the influence of various SA gel concentration on the viscosity of gels, on the pH value, on the texture; to investigate the stability of produced gels; to assess the impact of crosspolymer on the stability of ethanolic/polymeric SA solutions. Acrylate copolymer, acrylate crosspolymer, acrylate/behenet – 25 methacrylate copolymer, acrylate/C 10 – 30 alcylacrylate and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) gels were produced using the method of mass. The viscosity of the produced gels is measured in a rotational viscometer. SA – ethanol solutions with acrylate crosspolymer were produced during the study. The pH values of all agents have been set by potentiometer. The influence of carbomers on the gels with SA texture was evaluated using texture analyser. The results were analysed using computer analyser‘s programm. The quantity of SA in the ethanolic/polymeric solutions was identified using the neutralization method. The gels of 2,5 % acrylate copolymer, acrylate crosspolymer, acrylate/behenet – 25 methacrylate copolymer, 0,8 % acrylate/C 10 – 30 alcylacrylate and 1,6 % HEC were produced. It was found that the SA and gelificating substances influence gel viscosity. The viscosity of 0,1 % SA gels with acrylate crosspolymer, acrylate/behenet – 25 methacrylate copolymer and HEC during the tested period changed significantly. It was found that 1 % SA with acrylate crosspolymer, acrylate/behenet – 25 methacrylate copolymer does not form gels. 1 % SA gel with HEC is formed, but after 7 days the instability of SA is noticed. It was found that gelificating substances significantly affect the gel texture. Only 1 % SA-ethanol/polymer solution remained stable for the whole tested period. The viscosity of gels with in Lithuania innovative materials is significantly lower than viscosity of the gels produced with acrylate/C 10 – 30 alcylacrylate and HEC. Stable 0,1 % SA gels were produced, so conditions of production, allowing to produce stable gels with a higher concentration of the SA should be found. The produced stable ethanol/polymer 1 % SA solutions can be used as a facial cleanser for acne prevention. The produced products stability was assessed during a 28 – day period, so it would be appropriate to extend the studies of stability
