Application of Individual pig care concept in commercial swine farms

Individual pig care (IPC) is a new management tool for pig farms, built on a daily pig health assessment, diagnosis of early disease detection, rapid response to disease. Aim of this study: to analyze the possibilities of applicating individual pig health concept in commercial swine farms in Lithuania. The goals of this study: 1. Assess individual swine surveillance program (IPC) application performance, disease screening. 2. Assess individual swine surveillance program (IPC) on the treatment of various diseases. Methods: The study in individual pig care was conducted in a sales pig farm. The studied pigs were subject to the test program, recorded and stored data written observations affecting data performance. Conclusions: During the observation period in pig commercial farm, pigs were most vulnerable to lung (40.3 %) and digestive diseases (33.7 %). Other disorders (such as anemia or reduced growth syndrome) amounted to 12.6 %. Joint diseases amounted for 10.4 %, neurological disease for 2.5 %. Manifestation of cannibalism amounted to 0.4 %. 3 deaths of piglets have been observed, the cause of death for 2 being pulmonary disease and neurological disease for the third. Individual pig care system is an efficient type of pig care. It is recommended to use this program in other farms as well
