The Case Analysis of Female Leadership Expression in Healthcare Organization Kauno Apskrities Priklausomybių Centras

The aim of the study: To reveal the expression of female leadership in health care institution. Objectives: 1. The evaluation of the expression of female leadership in the management of health care institutions. 2. The establishment of the characteristic social skills, personality traits and type that influence the aknowledgement of leader among the co-workers. 3. The evaluation of factors that limit the female leadership. Methodology. To investigate the expression of women leadership in the VbĮ „Kauno apskrities Priklausomybių centras“ the method of case analysis was chosen. The study using case analysis method requires the use of the triangulation principle; that means the use of three or more methods are used to study the same phenomenon to increase the validity of the study, therefore, the document analysis, questionnaire and interview were used. The women (n=61) who work in the organization took part in that investigation; 86% of questionnaires were returned. In order to achieve the more precise data about the examined phenomenon the interview was performed. The questionnaire consisted of both open and close type of questions. For statistical data analysis SPSS.17 software was used. For the statistical data analysis description Microsoft Office Excel 2010 was used. Results. 53 women participated in the research project. The dominant age group was 36 to 45 years of age old (37.7%). Distribution of residents by education showed that majority had the higher university education (49.2%). The average length of service of respondents was 16 years. During the evaluation of the existence of female leadership in organization the respondents almost unanimously (90.6%) declared that there are female leaders in the organization. Conclusions. The evaluation of female leadership expression in evaluated organization showed that: female leadership expression dominates in the levels II and III of the organization control; the evaluation of research theories, according to respondent answers, showed that the traits theory was most applicable to female leaders; the most important abilities – persistency at work, ability to rally the team for teamwork, self-confidence, being personal example of work ethics; most important personal traits – challenge loving, intellectual, competent, trying not to negatively affect others; style of the leadership expression – autocratic. Moreover, these factors were revealed as the most limiting factors of female leadership: lack of self-confidence, lack of trust in own abilities, limited time because of family
