Evaluation of nurses‘ job satisfaction and its influencing factors

Goal of work: to evaluate job satisfaction of nurses working in neuro-surgical and neurology departments and to determine the factors related with job satisfaction. Tasks of work: 1. To explore and evaluate nurses‘ job satisfaction. 2. To evaluate the factors influencing job satisfaction of respondents according to social and demographic criteria. 3. To determine and evaluate job satisfaction and its related factors of nurses working in Kaunas, Šiauliai, Panevėžys and Vilnius health organizations. Methods of research: Object of research – job satisfaction of nurses working in neuro-surgical and neurology departments in Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Clinics, Republical Panevėžys Hospital, Children‘s Hospital, Affiliate of Vilnius University Hospital Santariskiai Clinics, Republican Vilnius University Hospital, Republican Siauliai Hospital. Research sample - 245 nurses. Methods of research: 1. Questionnaire. A questionnaire was used while exploring and determining respondents’ job satisfaction and its influencing factors. P.E. Spector (1994) job satisfaction questionnaire with 36 propositions was used (see Appendix 2). 2. Statistical analysis. Data accumulation and analysis program SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) (version 15) was used. The research results have shown that common average rate of respondents‘ job satisfaction was 103,13. Most often wage, additional privileges and career possibilities were indicated as statistically relevant factors influencing job satisfaction. Social and demographic characteristics were correlating with respondents‘ job satisfaction statistically relevantly: respondents with higher university degree were unsatisfied with their job more often comparing with married respondents working in day shift, which were more often satisfied with their job. The highest rate of job satisfaction was found in Children Infections Hospital of Vilnius – 106,44, meanwhile the lowest – in Republican Šiauliai Hospital – 95,55. Differences in such factors as wage, unexpected rewards, work conditions and co-workers which are used in evaluating job satisfaction were statistically relevant comparing different hospitals.
