Occupational therapy for preschool children with sensory integration disorders

The aim of the research is to evaluate the pre-school age children in sensory integration disorder, and adjustment, with effectiveness of therapy. Objectives: 1. Assessment of SI disorder in preschool childre; 2. establish links between SI disorder and children activity levels and emotional maturity; 3. to assess the impact of occupational therapy by correction the tactile defensiveness problems. The study consisted of two parts: questionnaire-based survey of 3-5 year old children parents. Clinical observation, which was assessed by occupational therapy and evaluating children reactions to tactile stimuli. The study included 67 subjects. 36 (54 prc.) boys and 31 (46 prc.) girls. Occupational therapy was applied 16 (24 prc.) children, as determined reaction to touch stimuli disorders, of whom 6 (19 prc.) girls and 10 (28 prc.) boys. Results: : The evaluation showed that children with tactile defensiveness were 16 (24%), inadequate response to proprioreception stimuli had 14 (21 prc.) children. Too weak response to vestibular stimuli have been identified to 16 (24 prc.) and too strong reactions to vestibular stimuli had 21 (31 prc.) children. It was also a statistically reliable connection between touch and active perception disorder (χ2 - 0009 (p<0.05). We found a statistically significant connection (p <0.05) between the tactile defensiveness and too weak reactions to vestibular stimuli. Of the 16 (100 prc. ) children who had tactile defensiveness 8 (50 prc.) children are inadequate (too weak) response to vestibular stimuli. It also found a statistically significant connection between tactile defensiveness and reaction to the disruption of sound and image. (χ2 - 0.002 ( p<0.05). 9 (56 prc.) children with tactile defensiveness strongly excited from the various sounds or images. The effectiveness of occupational therapy is statistically significant (p<0.05). Before occupational therapy was 11.6 (SD - 2:42) in occupational therapy have changed to 8.4 (SD - 2.68) - total score mean change 3.19 Conclusions: 1. Preschool children have sensory integration disorder. The survey results showed that the perception of touch has 16 (24 prc.) preschool-age children, inadequate response to the proprioreception stimuli have 14 (21 prc.) children, a weak response to the vestibular stimuli 16 (24 percent) and for 21 children (31 prc.) found a strong reaction to vestibular stimuli. 2. Find links between touch perception problems and activity level. 8 (50 prc.) children who had tactile defensiveness problems found during the high activity (χ2 - 0009 (p <0.05)) 3. Occupational therapy, adjustment disorder of tactile defensiveness is effective. The total score mean change - 3.19 (p< 0.05). Recommendations: 1. It is appropriate to develop occupational therapist consultations on sensory integration disorder correction capabilities, training of environmental adaptation of pre-school education. 2. Occupational therapist can assist in developing, writing, reading skills, improving self-regulatory capabilities, and advise teachers on how to apply the process of teaching and learning environment for students with sensory integration. 3. Occupational therapist should work in the city pedagogical - psychological services, as appropriate to the child being referred for consultation and / or correction
