Diabetes mellitus: analysis of clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment

The aim was to analyse epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of feline diabetes mellitus and to identify factors, which has influence in manifestation of this disease. The study was carried out in 2011 – 2012 year. There was composed questionnaire form, which was send to veterinary clinics of Lithuania. All received material was used for statistic analysis. There was reviewed epidemiology, clinical manifestations, patogenesis and factors what influences it, blood biochemistry results, diagnosis and treatment of feline diabetes mellitus in this master study. There was determinated frequency of disease, analysed clinical sings and alterations of blood biochemistry. Also there was found what sex, weight, age of cat and castration had influence in manifestation of feline diabetes mellitus. Fructosamine an glycosylated hemoglobin measurements are not used for diagnosis of feline diabetes mellitus in Lithuania, though this testing is very important to diagnose diabetes in cats, because it can differentiate stress – induced hyperglycemia. Where was determinated in this study what only about 50 percent cats with diabetes mellitus are treated in Lithuania
