The stress experienced by nurses working in children's diseases departments

The aim of study: evaluate the stress experienced by nurses working in children‘s diseases departments. The tasks of research: 1. To evaluate the environment of nurses work. 2. To identify the reasons of stress experienced by nurses. 3. To find out what signs and health disorders feel nurses when experience stress at work. 4. To identify the elements which help to cope with stress. The methods of research: questionnaire survey and statistic analysis of data. To realize the survey was formed the anonymous questionnaire. The questionnaire was formed according to literature which was studied before the research. The research was carried out between October 2011 – February 2012 at children‘s hospital of PI VUH Santariškių clinic branch. The statistic analysis of data was performed with the SPSS 17.0 program. For the graphical representation of research results was used the program of Excel 2007. The participants of research: nurses working at children‘s hospital of PI VUH Santariškių clinic branch. 250 nurses participated in the research. The results and conclusions of research: The nurses evaluate the work as hard and stressful (58 percent), the stress at work experience (57,6 percent), however maintain that: at work they share knowledge and experience; help and support for each other; if the problems at work arise find someone to talk to; the work takes pleasure; it’s easy to work with colleagues; when the job is done well the colleagues appreciate that; the workload is distributed equally; discrepancies in the departments are settled quickly and nicely, relations between management and staff are good. The stress for nurses at work are usually caused by: responsible, rush, physically stressful, requiring quick orientation job, heavy workload, high patient turnover, emotions of relatives and relatives requiring for patients. The stress raise such physical and emotional symptoms as: high pressure, shoulder /leg/, spinal pain, headaches, sleep disorders after work, skin problems and allergies, fatigue, nervousness, excitement and anxiety. The nurses try to overcome the stress by continuing to work not flushing hands, talking things out with a colleague about experienced stressful situation, trying to cope with experienced stressful situation, sitting quietly and taking it easy, thinking that it could have been worse and to occured problem watch optimistic
