The purpose of this thesis was to create a process that could be used to create a Ni-Mn-Ga/polymer composite for active damping applications. The composites were made using a gas atomized magnetic shape memory (MSM) powder in an epoxy matrix. The goal is to create a composite that exhibits the same properties as bulk Ni-Mn-Ga single crystals, but at a lower cost. The Ni-Mn-Ga powder had to be heat treated before it could be used in the composites. Small scale heat treatments were done and powder characterization conducted on to find suitable heat treatment parameters.
