This paper presents research results of phosphate removal from aqueous solution using ZnCl2–loaded chitosan adsorbent. The adsorption results of the ZnCl2/chitosan compo-site were compared to those of ZnO/chitosan and nano-ZnO/chitosan composites. Adsorbent was characterised by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectral study (FT-IR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Point of Zero Charge–method (PZC). Several adsorption experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of process parameters such as adsorbent dose, pH, contact time, temperature and competing ions.
